Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency who proudly operates Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre.

Our centre offers licensed child care and a nurturing environment for up to 88 children, ages 0-6, to learn, develop, and connect with their Indigenous culture. Our Child Care Centre is adjoined with our Family Centre that provides a place for young children, families and youth to participate in ceremonies, land-based learning, knowledge exchange and connect with community supports.
Are you a knowledgeable and driven individual who is passionate about making a tangible difference? We are looking for a Custodian to join our team at Nshwaasnangong. Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Custodian is responsible for general care and upkeep of the Nshwaasnangong Child Care & Family Centre Facility, inside and out. This person is responsible for keeping the building clean and in orderly condition as well as alert management regarding required repairs.

What we’re looking for:
· Experience: High School Diploma or GED with experience as a custodian or maintenance worker, or other similar position.
· Cultural Sensitivity & Awareness: A genuine respect for Indigenous cultures and practices, with an openness to learning and engaging with Indigenous communities. Experience with Indigenous communities is an asset.
· Custodial & Maintenance Support: Experience with commercial cleaning and basic building maintenance. Basic working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and experience operating a variety of equipment and hand tools. Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate the needs of the centre.
· Teamwork and Collaboration: You are a team player who can establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Strong initiative with the ability to work well with minimal supervision.
· Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact positively with community members, management, and staff.
· Additional Requirements: You have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle, as travel within the region may be needed. You’ll also need a clean and current Vulnerable Sector Police Check and up-to-date immunizations and records.
What you’ll do:
· Custodial Functions: Responsible for the general care and upkeep of the Nshwaasnangong facility inside and out. Keeps the building clean and in orderly condition. Sweep and mop hallways, clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures, empty trashcans and other waste containers, perform heavy cleaning duties such as mopping floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls/windows etc. to maintain a high degree of cleanliness in all rooms.
· Maintenance Functions: Light maintenance including simple playground repairs, unclogging toilets, changing furnace filters, hanging signage, may move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies. Outdoors will require that all grounds, buildings, etc. are maintained properly in all seasons and notifying management of the need for repairs or replacements.
